How to Read POker Players

Posted in Uncategorized

A lot of people who try to read tells make the mistake of looking all over the table, trying to pick up every player’s tell in the first few poker hands of the game. Most of the time, this is a great way to get frustrated and not learn a thing about your poker opponents. The best way to try to get a read on players is to read them individually. When you’re looking around for tells, focus on just one player. Keep an eye on him and watch for his tendencies and bad habits. If you just focus on that one, you will get the entire story of the player, but if you are trying to read everybody at once, you’ll be getting bits and pieces of a lot of different stories, and those vignettes are useless out of the context of their whole play style.

Just focus on one poker player at a time, and don’t expect to get a complete handle on his play style in a game. Once you have a few decent tells, move on to the next player. If you only pick up on one or two tells on just a few opponents, you’ll have a big advantage over everybody else.
