A Rise of the Missional Body of Christ
Church on mission is definitely a popular saying that is anywhere you look these days. the concept that we need to title places of worship, missional, has always been different to me. I ask you, shouldnt all places of worship be missional in their very essence? why cant a church, at its very essence, shoot to connect their culture and neighborhood with the gospel as a missionary would in a overseas country? Isnt this what the bodies of Christ is challenged to do in the great commission in Matthew 28:19? Our own hometown begs for this brand of church. North Austin church is slowly moving to what our Creator instructed in Scripture.
Christ gives the command in Acts 1:8 saying, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 explains this subject as, right before Jesus Christ ascends to Heaven, He sends the disciples on a exploration that would initiate right in their own community. He begins with their hometown of Jerusalem, and then broadens the call to the far parts of the world.
As believers, we are not called to privacy, but to be missional believers who are anxiously going out and meeting people right where they are with the good news. We have observed this throughout history: God moved Abraham on a mission to go out of his city and his people and go to the city that God would show him (Gen. 12:1), God motivated Moses on a story to rescue an enslaved people and lead them to relationship with God (Exodus 3:8-10), God sends Jesus on a story to world to reconcile all things to Himself through the blood of Christ (Colossians 1:20). And now God is sending believers on a journey to engage areas, cities, people groups, and even nations with the message of Jesus (Matt. 28:19 Mark 6:7 Luke 10:1 John 20:21 Acts 1:8). If we dont respond to this call and continue to perceive the places of worship like a private country club ” encouraging that people fix their talents, pay their fees, and walk to our church God will continue His exploration without us.
