Does Tiger Woods Have an UNFAIR Advantage?

Posted in Uncategorized

Why does Tiger seem to have an UNFAIR advantage?
Is it because he can hit the ball farther. Is it his ability
to sink putts in clutch situations? Is it his sharp
short game?

The truth is there are times he does ALL these things
to near perfection but for the most part, he seems to
have something else going for him. Something that’s
hard to define or describe. It’s not luck or chance
and I’m sure if you asked Tiger, he may have a
difficult time describing or putting it into words.

Even when he’s not striking the ball to the best of his
ability he’s able to maintain an inner confidence
that he can still win. He knows his real strength is not
his ball striking ability but his belief that if he isn’t
optimum in the physical sense, his mental golf game is.

I remember earlier in Tiger’s career, when approached
after a round he would say ” I didn’t have my “A” game
today.

You generally got the sense that the other pro golfers
were a little peeved with his cockiness. It appeared as
though he was belittling his performance which was
already the best in the field and in doing so, belittling
the rest of the field.

What he was actually doing was rating only the physical
performance. What he failed to mention was that his
mental golf game was just fine, thank you very much.

If I’m to attempt at defining what Tiger seems to have
more of, it’s control over his subconscious mind.
Through greater control and harmony of his non conscious
thoughts with his will or conscious thoughts, he is able
to execute successfully with greater frequency.

It’s easier to understand how they can be at odds with one
another when you consider that our brains process on
average 60,000 thoughts daily. To think we interpret all
of these thoughts positively is both naive and unrealistic.
There’s just far to much we expose ourselves to that we have
no control over.

So I know I haven’t answered your big question yet. If that’s
the case then How does Tiger do it?

He practices his MENTAL GOLF GAME. He influences and
feeds his non conscious mind with the right mindset and
thoughts. He’s able to convert this to positive visualization
power that he has conditioned his mind to have more of than
the rest of the pack.

I’m sure Tiger would have a difficult time exacting what
percent of his success he attributes to his mental game, but he
knows one thing for certain, it’s enough to make the
difference.

Chances are if you’re like most die hard golfers, you’ve probably
spent a small fortune on equipment to improve. But how much have
you spent on YOUR MENTAL GOLF GAME?

The Three Requirements of Good Golf

Posted in Uncategorized

Lesson 3

Now back to our story of D.M.

Once he learned how to position and direct the club on the backswing, and once he began to keep the club in that same true position throughout the swing, his scores began to improve. As a matter of record, six months after his first lesson from me he won a tournament at Bel-Air by shooting a score of 66, four under par for 18 holes. One year after he had his first lesson his handicap had been lowered from 13 to 3.

In one week of play he scored a hole in one in addition to scoring a 2 on a 390-yard hole, and another 2 on a 410-yard hole. To do this, the ball must have been flying true and straight off his clubs.

An interesting sequel to the D.M. story is that ten years after the above-mentioned instruction, he was playing with a 4 handicap, and in a tournament in which there were over 300 entries he turned in the low qualifying score of 67
.
What brought his handicap from 13 to 3? What gave him the ability to shoot a 66, and ten years later shoot a 67? It was a simple case of synchronizing the two things every golfer must do if he wants to play good golf.
First, there must be a basic ability to swing the club correctly, and the correct way to swing it is with a sense of body control. This ability to motivate or swing the club with the body is impossible unless the player has the proper footwork and a proper sense of balancing himself, so that he has the full, free use of his body. It is from the body that the power flows, so that the distance aspect of a golf shot depends on just how the body is being used.

Second, the player must be able to kep the club in position throughout the swing so that the club will produce the effect for which it was designed, and the ball will fly true and straight towards the objective.

Now, D.M. had (1) the footwork, which gave him the necessary balance so that he could (2) use his body to swing the club, but he was totally lacking in (3) the proper club positioning control so that his shots kept going “hither and yon,” and until he corrected his errors in this respect, his golf game was erratic.

Everybody’s golf game is subject to the following analysis
.
First, how well does the player handle his weight; what is his sense of balance; does he know how to work his feet and legs in order to establish the proper sense of balance so that the body can be established as the motivating factor in swinging the club
?
Secondly, how well does the player use his body; does he understand that a golf swing is a double-handed, ambidextrous motion in which there is an upswing as well as a downswingan upswing that is made with the right side of the body and a downswing and follow through that is made with the left side?

Third, if the player has the footwork which will give him this double-handed, ambidextrous motion with his body, does he knew exactly how to use his hands to exert the necessary positioning control over the club so that he can make the ball do just what he wants it to do?

While these three things are individually necessary and important, there is a certain order of importance, and a certain order of performance that prevails in developing the ideal result. For example, before a golfer can use his body correctly in swinging the club, he must know how to handle his weight, and only when he has a working arrangement between his weight and his body is he in a position to learn how to use his hands.

In other words, there are prior factors and there are post factors in a golf swing. Let me call upon a scientific formula to help explain this order of importance that I am discussing. The formula reads as follows:
Ultimate results depend on post factor efficiency.

These seven words succinctly describe the artistry of a golf swing; there are things to do, but there is a certain time to do them.

First the golfer must handle his weight; but shifting the weight from one foot to the other does nothing of itself, it only places the player in a position where he can use and utilize his body correctly.

Secondly, only when the golfer has the basic or prior footwork so that he is in a position to use his body to swing the club, are the hands free to exert over the club the proper sense of position and control, and the ability to apply the club correctly to the ball. In other words, a golf shot only flies as the club makes it fly, and how the ball flies is a direct result of the club position. The club position is a direct result of what the hands are doing, and what the hands are doing is the post factor that determines ultimate efficiency.

No wonder so much time and effort is concentrated on the correct grip in golf.

I have often said that a runner runs with his feet, but a goffer golfs with his hands. Of course, for the runner to get his feet in action, there is a lot of arm and shoulderwork, and for a golfer to get his hands working, there is a lot of footwork and body action.

To repeat, there are three basic factors in golf:

1. Footwork, for balance

2. Body action, for power

3. Hand action, for club control

But to these three factors there is an order of importance, a delicate sense of timing that so many golfers miss. They fail to get the knack of properly coordinating these three factors into a working arrangement.
As there is a certain order of importance, so likewise there is a certain order of performance in these three basic operations of a golf swing. In other words, in the properly executed golf shot the player moves smoothly from one operation to the other, but all operations function collectively towards the final goal of applying the club to the ball. So there is in the golf shot an order of importance and an order of performance which precludes any such thing as a one-piece swing. Be prepared to reach your ultimate goal of a smooth, flowing performance through a natural step-by-step procedure rather than through any short cut.

The other comment I wish to make is that if there is error in the performance of any operation in the swing, then such an error would multiply and increase as it would be carried on into the next operation. So there must be sure performance in the execution of each of the three factors.

The World Cup Fever!!

Posted in Uncategorized

Waiting for the World Cup to start has always been a punishing yet rewarding experience for soccer aficionados. The former is felt days after the last World Cup ends, the latter, days before the next one starts. Soccer fans will declare that the long four-year wait is all worth it once this truly world event begins with that starting kick off. All that pent up excitement has to come out sometime and what better way for it to go than through the explosion of cheers, applause and jubilant gestures of support once the games are underway. Finally, the excruciating wait is over as the eight groups of thirty-two teams from various countries compete for the World Cup Trophy and their respective nation’s pride. Last Friday marked the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. Several countries virtually went into a standstill as history unfolded in the Allianz Arena at Munich.

This truly is an occasion of global proportions as football devotees root for their country’s team with fervent display of loyalty and zeal. In the 64 grueling and exciting matches ahead, soccer fans are sure to get a treat as the likes of Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, and Beckham strut their wares on the road to football glory. The powerhouse that is Brazil is clearly the team to beat this year. In the seventeen previous tournaments since the first World Cup in 1930, Brazil has been a dominant force having won five of the seventeen events including the one back in 2002. The defending champions shouldn’t take it easy though because hot on their heels are other soccer superpowers and they are not trailing far behind in talent and passion. Italy, England, Germany and Argentina are only few of the countries that will surely make Brazil’s journey to the finals very difficult. The other countries in FIFA’s top world ranking list includes Spain, Mexico, Netherlands, Czech Republic and the United States. These are all formidable teams that can certainly hold their own in this tournament and could easily be this year’s World Cup champions. It is almost an impossibility to predict who will raise the trophy in Berlin on July 9 but that’s simply the beauty of it! One thing is for sure, the country that gets to keep the World Cup Trophy for the next four years will have justly earned and deserved it. All this rich history, glorious pride, legendary teams, prominent personalities and beautiful venues will be the making of one of the best tournaments thus far.

Talking about the World Cup would be incomplete without mentioning the hooligans that this event seemingly attracts. Add booze to the mix and you’ve got an explosive situation warranting a serious once over.

Too often, the World Cup has been analogous to thousands of people trooping into colossal stadiums, euphoric crowd shouting, ultra tight security and some minor riots happening near and around the stadium. Although there is nothing wrong with this image (except for the riot part) and all the fanfare, the real value of this monumental event is not just about winning the most sought after accolade in sports. It is the coming together of different countries and cultures under one common goal. Let’s play futbol!

Similarities Of Golf And Archery

Posted in Uncategorized

Golf started a little more than 500 years ago. It may have gone back as far as the roman days. The golf ball was a leather pouch stuffed with feathers. Is it possible the kids back then started the game of golf by taking the feathers of their father’s arrows and stuffing their pouch, and used a club instead of a bow to get the curvilinear motion of a game they really wanted to play?

The Scottish Shepherds started playing golf back in Scotland, by hitting a leather ball stuffed with feathers. So many people played the game of golf in Scotland, that the government eventually stopped the game. The government wanted the people to practice archery, so they could be good enough to defend their country. Was stopping the game of golf altogether a mistake?

Judging by the enthusiasm of how golf is moving forward today. They might have been better off stopping the use of the mashie and niblick golf club, and made it mandatory to use the bow and arrow instead. It would have accomplished two things. The people would have improved their archery skills, and for the people who continued using golf clubs, it would have speeded up golf play at the same time. All they had to do to make it safe was lengthen the tee time intervals. The wind may have been the only other dangerous factor. The biggest problem would have been getting an audience or a crowd to watch along the sidelines.

Now taking a look at the similarities of golf and archery, one would think they went hand in hand. Both sports require a shaft, target, distance and accuracy. The two sports are played with a curvilinear motion. Players from both sports have to use a straight arm and a bent arm. The two sports have rounds to play. Both the arrow and golf ball are capable of going 400 yards or better in a single shot. The tournaments included junior tournaments. Carrying either equipment is typically swung over the shoulder. The circle in a target is the approximate size in width as the tin cup. Equipment for both sports is made with grooves in them. The one difference between the two sports that stands out the most, one requires a nock and the other requires a niblick to play with?

What Are Long Drive Golf Exercises

Posted in Uncategorized

Long drive golf exercises can add up to 30 yards to your drives in a very short amount of time. It’s quite obvious to hit long golf drives you need to have power. Power is the equivalent of both strength and flexibility specific to your golf swing.

The key to implementing long drive golf exercises is to look at the main movement in your golf swing.

What is it?

Is it a lateral movement (side-to-side)? Is it a vertical movement (up and down)? I’ll stop the “twenty questions” and cut to the chase.

It’s a ROTATIONAL movement!

Golf is rotational! You make a backswing (rotate). And you make a downswing (rotate).

If this is the case…what strength and flexibility exercises should be done to maximize your long drives?

You guessed it – ROTATIONAL exercises!

You don’t need to go to a gym and sweat for 2 hours a day. You don’t even need to spend much on equipment. All you need is you, a couple of pieces of affordable golf exercise equipment and a little creativity.

There are dozens and dozens of rotational strength and flexibility exercises you can do right in your home or office that will reap HUGE dividends on the course. In my 350 page Ultimate Golf Fitness Manual, I have pages and pages of these strength and stretching exercises for long drives.

I’m a firm believer in working the “total package” in regards to exercising all the major golf muscles in your body. Every golfer is different, and has unique needs (limitations) that should be addressed.

The major muscles involved with long drive golf exercises are the core muscles (first-and-foremost), the hamstrings, glutes and lower back muscles.

The secondary (support) muscles for incorporating long drive golf exercises are the shoulder rotators, forearms (wrists), upper back (lats), and the hip girdle. These muscles are “icing-on-the-cake” muscles in regards to hitting power golf drives every time you step on the tee box.

This is not rocket-science, but you do need to make sure you are doing the correct exercises that will give you the biggest return on your investment.

I hope you have a better, initial understanding of long drive golf exercises.

3 Little Known Tips Of Basketball Hoop Shopping

Posted in Uncategorized

I’ve got a confession to make. I play basketball. I play it very poorly and can’t make very many of the shots that I shoot at the basketball hoop. I have a feeling that I am not alone in the world at being a rather poor basketball player. However, one thing that I’m not bad at is comparison shopping. I’ve mastered the ancient art of comparing prices between merchants and can usually ferret out a fairly good deal with a little bit of leg work. Basketball hoops are no different than other items when it comes to shopping for them. There are some tips you should know before embarking on your journey to shop for a basketball hoop.

1)New or Used. You really might consider buying a used basketball hoop if you are interested in value. However, make sure you are buying one that hasn’t been banged up too bad. Years of basketball practice can only make your rim bent and dirty. Ebay can be a great place to buy used equipment and basketball hoops are regularly for sale on Ebay.

2)Do your homework by comparing different merchant offers on different search engines and different websites. Just because something is advertised for sale on Google doesn’t mean its also advertised for sale on Yahoo. Some merchants advertise their good strictly through the Amazon partners program and don’t do any other advertising anywhere else. Price vary drastically and the only way you will know that you are getting a good deal is to examine what the different people are selling the same goods for on different websites. Basketball hoops are no exception.

3)Learn about the different types and styles of basketball hoops. Without the knowledge of what you are buying, points #1 and #2 are nearly worthless. Buy your hoop the right way and get a great deal on one by being an informed consumer. Learn how to buy a basketball hoop and you can guarantee that you got a better deal than everyone else.
