Increasing Flexibility…Not Stretching… Is The Fastest Way To A Better Golf Swing

Posted in Uncategorized

Flexibility is quite often a misunderstood principle, but most of us know it is important to golf. Before we discuss flexibility and its relevance to golf we need to start with: “What in the #$%#%$#% is flexibility anyways?”

It is a simple question yet one that is not easy to answer. I imagine that most of you come up with some definition that is something to the effect of “Flexibility is stretching, right?” That answer is partially correct. Flexibility training incorporates stretching techniques. However, it is NOT limited to traditional stretching, and the two terms cannot be used interchangeably.

We Should Talk About What Flexibility Means

According the National Academy of Sports Medicine, flexibility can be defined as the normal extensibility of all soft tissues that allow full range of motion of a joint. You will note that nowhere in the definition of flexibility is the word stretching used. To help further explain, understand, and clearly define flexibility, let us take the definition and break it down into three parts. The first part of the definition, “the normal extensibility,” is best understood by thinking of the muscles in your body. Each muscle in your body has what is termed a “normal length-tension relationship.” When the muscle is at its “normal length-tension relationship,” it functions correctly. When the muscles contract and extend (i.e. when you “flex” your bicep in the mirror, your bicep muscle is contracting and your tricep is extending) they enable you to create movement of your skeleton. Often, athletes cause a disruption of the “normal length-tension relationship” through training, which leads to one muscle becoming shorter or longer than its normal length-tension relationship. When this happens, the body begins to have difficulty moving the skeleton in a safe and efficient manner, which will be magnified when trying to perform athletic movements.

The second portion of the definition of flexibility discusses “all soft tissues.” This part of the definition is quite easy. As you know, the human body is comprised of numerous types of cells and tissues. Soft tissues are simply a categorization of certain types of tissues in your body including muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

The final part of the definition reads: “that allow full range of motion of a joint.” Every joint (where two bones are connected in your body, i.e. shoulder, hip, elbow, etc.) moves through a specified range of motion determined by the design of the joint. The anatomical structure of a joint determines the amount, direction and type of movement through which a joint moves. This is known as the range of motion. To achieve a full range of motion, the surrounding muscles and connective tissue have to be flexible enough to allow the joint to move through that range of motion. To demonstrate what a full range of motion is, bend your elbow as much as you can (brining your hand as close to your shoulder as possible) and then straighten it. Each joint in the body has a range of motion that is unique to the design of the joint. For example, the shoulder joint is classified as a ball and socket joint, which has a range of motion of 360 degrees (a much greater range of motion than the elbow).

Once broken down, flexibility is simply defined as: every ligament, tendon, and muscle (soft tissues) in your body, having the correct length-tension relationship (normal extensibility) to allow every joint in your body to move through its full range of motion. This concludes the first part of this article. We now have a pretty simple working definition of flexibility. In the next section of this article we will discuss the question: “Why is flexibility important to the golf swing?”

The Real Meat of the Article…Flexibility and the Golf Swing

So now we have a “working definition” of flexibility. We probably need to discuss the golf swing briefly to create the connection between “your” flexibility and “your” golf swing.

Breaking down the golf swing, we know that it is categorized into different phases: address, take away, back swing, transition, down swing, contact, and follow through. Your local swing coach has probably discussed the importance of these phases of the swing in order to create a good swing. I am sure you also are aware that the body must “move through” these phases in a certain sequence for a correct swing to occur. The key phrase when it comes to the golf swing and flexibility is “move through.”

Go back to the definition of flexibility. What does it tell you? In general, it says that every muscle, ligament, and tendon in your body must have the correct range of motion within itself to perform the activity you ask of it. Take that definition and place it upon what movements are required of the golf swing. It essentially states that your individual body MUST have the required flexibility parameters within every muscle, ligament, and tendon to execute the golf swing correctly.

Now the kicker question: what happens if your body does not have the needed flexibility parameters to swing a club on the correct path? Is the answer, “Forget about golf and go grab your fishing pole?” No, that is not the correct answer. Your body is a little smarter than that one wise-crack answer. If you ask your body to do something, nine out of ten times it will “try” to do what you are asking it to do. When your brain tells your body to do this and this and this in a certain order, your body is going to try as hard as it possibly can to complete the task. The task (in our case the golf swing) may get completed, but probably not exactly as we would like. In the golf swing, this results in shots that we are really not happy about (slices, hooks, blocks, etc.)

When the body does not have the needed flexibility to swing a club on the correct path is what we term “compensation.” Compensation is the body’s way of making up for inefficiencies it may have within it. If you do not have the flexibility properties in, say, your hamstrings for the golf swing, your body will create compensation patterns in your swing to “make up” for the lack of flexibility in your lower body. So the reality of the situation becomes that, regardless of how hard you work on your swing and how much you practice, until you correct the flexibility issues within your body it will be very difficult to correct your swing. So there you have it! The connection between flexibility and the golf swing is a very important connection if you are looking to make good shots on the course.

How do I get it?

We have discussed flexibility and the golf swing. You now have an understanding about the definition of flexibility, the importance of flexibility as it relates to the golf swing, and what happens if you do not have it (flexibility for the golf swing, that is). Now the final question to answer is: “How to I get it if I don’t have it!” That is a question to answer in another article, or take a look at our web site www.bioforcegolf.com for more answers.

What you need to know to buy a good used boat

Posted in Uncategorized

More than 60 percent of first-time boat buyers purchase used boats rather than new ones off of the show room floor. For many, this is a practical solution to save money, especially when you’re not sure how well you are going to take to boating or how often you will feel like devoting time to your new leisure pursuit.

While buying a used boat has many advantages, it is also important to make sure that you are getting a good buy for your money and not unloading a faulty vehicle off of someone else’s hands. For first-time buyers this is often the most difficult task because they lack the knowledge that only years of boating experience can bring.

One of the most important things to consider when buying a boat for the first time is exactly how you are going to use the boat and how many people you will be transporting on it. Different boats have different uses and different weight specifications, be sure that the boat you purchase is compatible with your needs.

Once you find a boat that meets your particular needs, you need to inspect the mechanics of it to make sure that it is operational and in good condition. It is better to take someone with you who has knowledge of boats, but if no one is available, you should be able to do a fairly decent job of sizing the boat up on your own if you follow a few pointers.

You can easily tell if a boat has been properly maintained by taking a quick look at the appearance of the boat. If the boat looks shabby, chances are that the owner did not take much time or effort to maintain the mechanical aspects of the boat as well. Lift up any objects on the boat to check for discoloration or moss.

Also look at the metal and wooden surfaces to see if they show any signs of corrosion or improper maintenance. Check the riggings to see if they appear strong and in good condition. And look to see if the bulk heads are secured with a laminate. If the bulk heads are loose, do not purchase the boat.

Once you inspect the initial appearance of the boat, it is time to get into the engine compartment. Check to make sure the engine is clean and rust free. Check the oil, the batteries and make sure the bilge pump is in working order.

After you have looked the used boat over thoroughly, have the owner take you out on the water for a test spin. Do not worry about inconveniencing the owner. If they truly want to sell the boat, they will not mind to take a little time to show off its performance. After all, they would likely not buy a used boat without seeing it in action either.

Buying a used boat can be a great experience if you take the time to select the boat that is perfect for you. Be sure to take that time and to consider all of your prospects. After all, buying a boat is not something that you do everyday so invest wisely.

College Baseball – Who is the Best Ever?

Posted in Uncategorized

The University of Southern California has a baseball team, the Trojans. The USC Trojans are undoubtedly one of the very best college baseball teams to every play the game. Over 95 of the baseball players from the college level who’ve made it into the Major Leagues played for the USC Trojans. USC has also appeared in 21 College World Series events and has won the most games in the this event as well, 70 in total.

The USC Trojans are also one of the oldest college baseball teams. The Trojans played their very first university baseball game in 1889 on the college campus. Unfortunately, the college team lost this game which may account for the fact that there aren’t any recorded games until 1892. This time, the University of Southern California Trojans won against the Woodbury Business College by a score of 14-3. The USC Trojans had a total of 20 players on their college baseball squad that year and finished it as an undefeated squad.

The very next year the Trojans played 10 games during the college baseball season. However, the USC baseball team appeared to have not played very much over the next four years with only 3 college games being recorded.

Between 1898 and 1902, the USC Trojans baseball team suffered one bad season after another. In 1902 this changed with the arrival of pitcher Rube Waddell, one of the stars of college baseball at the time who eventually went on to become a Hall of Fame inductee after playing on 4 different Major League teams. He was, without a doubt, responsible for the upturn in fortune of the Trojans college baseball team.

The fortune of the Trojans college baseball team was extremely mixed in the pre-World War 1 years and the team was even abolished for a season during 1913. This was to enable the college to focus on track and field sports. Of course the war years led to a decline in all sports, including baseball, but the Trojans college baseball team was fully re-instated in 1920. The University of Southern Californaia baseball team went from strength to strength and was finally rewarded by becoming a member of a college baseball conference in 1927 and they haven’t looked back since.

Who MadeThe First Parachute Jump?

Posted in Uncategorized

The first parachute jump in history is a bit debatable. While
many seem to think that an extreme sport like parachuting
has its roots in recent history, it has, in fact, been around
for centuries.

In 852 A.D., Arman Firman, a Muslim holy man, jumped from a
tower in Cordoba, Spain. At the time, he was wearing a billowy,
large cloak. While in theory this should have slowed him down
and allowed him to float gently to the earth (he also believed
this to be true), it did little to help his jump. He crashed to
the earth at a frightening speed, but lived to tell the tale of
the first parachute jump.

A cloak, however, is not a true parachute. Most give credit to
Leonardo Da Vinci for creating the first designs of parachutes.
Da Vinci spent years studying birds. He truly believed human
flight was possible. He, therefore, spent an extensive amount of
time trying to create a vehicle that might help man fly. While
Da Vinci never tried any of his ideas, he left behind sketches
and instructional texts dealing with the first parachute
jump.

Over the course of the next few hundred years, others tried to
create the first parachute jump, but none succeeded. All were
unrecorded events. Andre Jacques Garnerin, in 1797, jumped from
a hot air balloon with a chute made of silk. It looked as if he
were following Da Vinci’s designs. The first parachute jump was
a success, but there was little use for the parachute. It was
considered only for show.

However, with the creation of airplanes, parachutes became more useful vehicles. By World War II,
they were standard issue equipment for pilots as life saving
devices. Today, hundreds of people make their first parachute
jump each day. Parachuting has become an extreme sport of
magnificent popularity. First timers take several hours of
training to complete the first parachute jump. They are trained
in everything they need to know to make the jump safe including
what equipment is used during a jump, how to leave the plane
they’ll be jumping from, how to us a reserve chute in case the
first doesn’t open, and how to land.Historically, the first
parachute jump is in question, but thousands make their first
parachute jump each year.

NFL Week 15 Power Rankings

Posted in Uncategorized

1 (1) Indianapolis Colts (13-0)

They once again proved why they’re head and shoulders above the rest of the teams in the league, executing the Jacksonville Jaguars. The score was much closer than it should’ve been, and this week the Colts have an opportunity to essentially eliminate San Diego from playoff competition.

2 (2) Seattle Seahawks (11-2)

They absolutely handled the 49ers, winning 41-3, as was expected. They are slowly getting closer to home-field advantage, and a win this week against the Tennessee Titans will go a long way towards getting that privilege.

3 (4) Cincinnati Bengals (10-3)

They struggled against the Browns, but winning is all that matters, and the win gives the Bengals a firm grasp on the AFC North division, as they have a two game lead over the Pittsburgh Steelers. This week’s game against Detroit should give them the division championship, and with some help they could get the first-round bye.

4 (6) Denver Broncos (10-3)

The Ravens put up a heck of a fight, and Denver probably should’ve lost that game. The Broncos can’t afford too many lackluster performances like that one, or they won’t get the coveted first-round bye.

5 (7) Jacksonville Jaguars (9-4)

They only move up because a lot of the other top teams lost, and once Byron Leftwich comes back this team could be dangerous. However, if they continue to take needless penalties like they did on Sunday against the Colts, they won’t go very far in the playoffs.

6 (3) San Diego Chargers (8-5)

They don’t have to worry about winning the division now – they’re going to need a lot of help just to make the playoffs. This loss to the Miami Dolphins might be the game they look back on and think about what could’ve been. 7 (11) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-4)

I’m not entirely convinced that they have what it takes to be considered a serious contender this year, but the Bucs did show something against the Panthers. They can be physical if they want to be. A similar performance this week against the Patriots may give the Bucs the momentum to win the NFC South.

8 (5) Carolina Panthers (9-4)

Out muscled and out worked by the Tampa Bay Bucs as they lost in a game that would’ve given them a great shot at clinching the NFC South. Now they have a slight breather against the New Orleans Saints, although the Saints did beat them earlier in the season.

9 (9) New York Giants (9-4)

Jay Feely finally came through for the Giants, and that’s a good thing as they were able to keep their one game lead in the NFC East, and a shot at home-field advantage. Kansas City won’t go down without a fight though, and it’ll be interesting to see if the Giants can match their intensity.

10 (12) Pittsburgh Steelers (8-5)

The Steelers needed some serious help to get back in the playoff race, and they got it – courtesy of a loss by both the Chiefs and the Chargers. However, with their weak in-conference record the Steelers are going to need a small miracle to make the playoffs.

11 (10) Dallas Cowboys (8-5)

It took a lot, but they were able to slip past the Chiefs and remain in the NFC playoff race. This week they have Washington, but the Redskins aren’t just going to roll over, not against a division rival.

12 (8) Chicago Bears (9-4)

I’ve said before that I’d be scared to see what would happen to the Bears if the opposition got an early lead, and Pittsburgh proved why. Going against popular opinion, I’d seriously consider putting in Rex Grossman, despite all the wins Kyle Orton has gotten. Why? Because this team isn’t winning because of Orton, they’re winning in spite of Orton.

13 (14) Atlanta Falcons (8-5)

They’re going to have a tough time catching both Tampa Bay and Carolina, but the win over the Saints shows there are still signs of life coming out of Atlanta. Chicago may give them some problems though, but if Mike Vick can break loose, Atlanta could still make the playoffs.

14 (13) Kansas City Chiefs (8-5)

A very tough loss against the Dallas Cowboys, especially considering they had the chance to take sole possession of the last wild-card spot. Now they’re in trouble, as Pittsburgh and San Diego are both still in the race.

15 (18) New England Patriots (8-5)

I’m a little hesitant to say that the Patriots are back, based on the strength of their competition. They’ll have a chance to prove they’re back this week against the Tampa Bay Bucs, and it should be a heck of a game. Home-field advantage might just put the Patriots over the top.

16 (15) Miami Dolphins (6-7)

They did a lot better this year than most people thought they would (myself included), but ultimately they’re going to fall just short of their goal. They put a serious hurt on San Diego’s playoff chances, and that’s got to feel good to the Dolphins.

17 (17) Minnesota Vikings (8-5)

Can they catch the Bears and steal the division? That would be truly amazing, despite the inevitable first round playoff loss. They just have to keep pace with Chicago, and then beat them in the last game of the season – which very well could decide a playoff spot.

18 (16) Washington Redskins (7-6)

It’ll take one heck of a miracle, but the Redskins are still in the playoff race. Beating Arizona by 4 points isn’t particularly impressive, but they have a chance to redeem themselves this week against the Dallas Cowboys.

19 (20) Cleveland Browns (4-9)

They’re mathematically eliminated from playoff competition, but they’re not playing with it. They pushed the Bengals to the limit, and should be able to get a victory over the equally weak Raiders.

20 (24) Baltimore Ravens (4-9)

They were able to push the Broncos to the end of their rope, and probably should’ve won the game. Now they have the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night – you don’t get many opportunities for a win that are better than that.

21 (21) Arizona Cardinals (4-9)

They kept up with the Redskins until the end of the game, and now they have a game against Houston – the team that seems like it’s trying to lose. Arizona could very well continue to move up this week.

22 (25) Philadelphia Eagles (5-8)

For the first time in a while the Eagles won’t have a winning season, but it won’t be because of a lack of effort – they didn’t let the Giants destroy them, as many expected. This week they get to play another NFC has-been powerhouse – the St. Louis Rams.

23 (27) Tennessee Titans (4-9)

They won, or did the Texans purposely lose? It sure seemed like it – that last kick wasn’t anywhere near the upright. This week they’re against the Seattle Seahawks – a team that’s not trying to lose.

24 (22) Oakland Raiders (4-9)

They lost to the New York Jets, and they’ll have a chance for back to back disappointing losses as they face the Cleveland Browns this week. Yep, Randy Moss is just what this team needed to make the playoffs.

25 (19) Buffalo Bills (4-9)

They got obliterated by an underachieving New England team, so just what do you think the Broncos are going to do to them?

26 (28) Green Bay Packers (3-10)

They did it! They did it! They won a game! It took overtime against Detroit, but they won a game! Now they have to play the Baltimore Ravens, a team that’s almost as bad as Detroit. Can they make it back to back wins? Is it possible?

27 (26) New Orleans Saints (3-10)

This was the season that everything went wrong. They had a hurricane, got moved all around the country, played home games in New York, and have to play in one of the toughest divisions in football. Ouch.

28 (30) New York Jets (3-10)

Sure the win feels good now, but how are they going to feel when they watch Reggie Bush cut through defenses for the next 10 years? I don’t advocate losing on purpose, but there are times when you question the point of winning…

29 (23) Detroit Lions (4-9)

For the entire season the Lions have been able to look at Green Bay and laugh, saying “at least we’re not THAT team”. No, you sure aren’t… you’re the team who loses to “THAT team”.

30 (29) St. Louis Rams (5-8)

How sad is it that this poor excuse for a team is second in their division? No wonder the Seahawks are doing so well. The Rams didn’t even show up to play the Vikings, and you have to wonder if they’ll play this week against the Eagles.

31 (31) San Francisco 49ers (2-11)

They were praying for the Texans to beat the Titans, but they didn’t come true. At least the 49ers held up their end of the bargain, losing by 38 to the Seahawks. Were they trying to lose, or were they just that bad?

32 (32) Houston Texans (1-12)

Reggie Bush – that kick was for you. Missing a 31 yard kick, and not just missing it, missing it by around 31 yards, you’ve got to try to do that. The Texans did everything but run backwards and kneel down in their end zone.

Center Ice With Russel Joseph

Posted in Uncategorized

Welcome back players, hope you are all enjoying the very profitable and entertaining year it’s been with NHL! We are cashing in our NHL action at a clip of 74% right now, that spans over 15 games of action, congratulations to all of you playing along with the RJS program! I wanted to take you all deeper inside the league this week, I will show you exactly which teams have been making money in not one, not two, but several major spots that should not be ignored. This is information that Vegas does NOT want you to have but I am bringing this forth for all of you to see, here we go players – where the value currently resides in the NHL. Eastern Conference

Best Overall Record – With the pizza line intact the Ottawa Senators continue to tear up the league, the Sens lead the league with a record of 29-9-3 and showing no signs of slowing down. The Carolina Hurricanes are the 2nd best team in the Eastern Conference, the Canes now 28-10-4 on the season with an entirely new look aside from Jarrett Stoll who simply looks like a 7 million dollar man right about now. The Philadelphia Flyers are favorites in a lot of books to win the Cup this season and why not with the 3rd best record in this Conference, the Flyers now 27-9 on the season.

Worst Overall Record – The Pittsburgh Penguins haven’t looked anything like what folks predicted they would this season, the Pens hold the conferences worst record overall at just 11-22-9 on the season. Even with leading rookie of the year Alexander Ovechkin leading the way, Washington is 2nd last in the conference with an overall record of just 13-23-5 to this point. The Bruins pull into 3rd in this category with their mediocre record of just 16-20-6 thus far.

Best Offense – Ottawa once again takes first spot, the Sens are the most powerful offensive unit with a total of 174 goals scored this season. Atlanta surprisingly comes in 2nd here with a total of 158 goals scored to this point, Carolina slides into 3rd position here as the Canes have scored a total of 154 goals already.

Worst Offense – It’s a staggering difference between best and worst in this category and Washington gets top billing here with a total of just 115 goals scored through the course of this season thus far. Florida has only scored 115 goals as well this season, the Panthers have great goaltending but they are seriously limited when it comes to finding offense on any night. Montreal has been a quiet team this season, not winning much, not losing much, not doing anything of much, they certainly don’t score much with a total of 117 total goals on the season.

Best Defense – Again the Ottawa Senators are tops in yet another category, the Sens hold the conferences & the entire leagues best defense after having allowed a total of just 99 goals over the season. The 2nd best defense in this conference belongs to the New York Rangers who have allowed just 108 goals this season, the Buffalo Sabres round out the top three here after having allowed a total of just 124 goals on the entire season thus far.

Home Power – Shocked? Not really, the Ottawa Senators lead the way here once again with an astounding home record of 17-3 this season. Carolina is no slouch in front of their fans either, the Canes now having a record of 18-4-1 on their own ice. Philadelphia has played very well at home this season, well enough for 3rd position here with a 13-5-3 mark to this point.

Home Alone – The Pittsburgh Penguins have looked ugly in almost every situation they have played this season, the Pens take top honors here with a lousy record of just 6-11-5 at home thus far. Washington is another team that has looked lousy almost every night out, they certainly have been lousy at home where the Capitals have now gone just 9-11-4 this season. The NY Islanders are another team that has had big struggles at home, the Isle have managed a meager 9-10-1 record on their own ice to this point.

Road Warriors – The Philadelphia Flyers take top spot here, the Flyers now an incredible 14-4-3 when they play away from home. The Buffalo Sabres are no slouch on the road either, the Sabres having now gone 13-6-1 away from home. The Ottawa Senators find their way into this category as well, the Sens are a very impressive 12-6-3 playing on the road this season.

RoadKill – The Washington Capitals have been finding it very difficult to win anywhere really, but playing on the road has proved especially challenging to this club, the Caps are the worst road team in the entire Eastern Conference with a record of just 4-12-1 thus far. The Florida Panthers are equally terrible on the road, the Panthers are now just 5-16-4 away from home this season. Not surprisingly the Pittsburgh Penguins are found in the 3rd spot here, the Pens have a record of just 5-11-4 away from home thus far.

Western Conference

Best Overall Record – The Dallas Stars are the top team in the West right now, the Stars are 28-12-2 on the season. The Detroit Red Wings are favorites at quite a few spots to win it all this season, the Wings are 2nd in their conference right now with a record of 28-12-3. Nashville has surprised a lot of people this season but at this point of the year it is not surprising to find the Predators in the #3 spot with a record of 27-12-3 thus far.

Worst Overall Record – The St. Louis Blues got rid of most of their talent before the season started, then they put the team up for sale and currently sit in last place in the Western Conference, nice plan. The Blues are the owners of the conferences worst record, now just 10-25-5 on the season and things look to get even worse before they get better in St. Louis. The Columbus Blue Jackets have been dealing with injuries to all of their star personnel since the season began, a big part of the reason this team is just 13-27-2 this season. Chicago has lost 10 of their last 11 games and currently own the 3rd position in this category, the Blackhawks are just 14-24-4 on the season.

Best Offense – The Colorado Avalanche have looked like contenders as of late, no surprise to see they lead the conference with a total of 165 goals scored already this season. The Detroit Red Wings have long been known as the owners of the NHLs most powerful offense, they slip a little this season and are currently ranked #2 in the conference with a total of 158 goals scored this season. The Los Angeles Kings have found some diamonds in the rough in players like Frolov and Visnovsky, the Kings have scored a total of 155 goals this season.

Worst Offense – Columbus is having a real bad season and it is proven even further with the fact the Jackets own the conferences worst offense, a total of just 92 goals scored for Columbus this season. St. Louis is no prized outfit, the Blues are second worst on offense, the team has scored a paltry total of just 104 goals this season. Chicago is 3rd last here, the Blackhawks look lost most nights and the team shows it in the numbers where it shows a total of just 110 Chicago goals scored tins season.

Best Defense – The Minnesota Wild have held one of the leagues best defenses since the season began, the Wild have allowed just 107 goals over the course of the season, that’s second best to only Ottawas defense, quite the compliment. Calgary and Dallas both tie up here for the #2 spot, both the Flames and Stars have given up a total of just 110 goals on the entire season.

Worst Defense – No shock to see the St. Louis Blues carry the conferences worst defensive rating, the Blues have given up a staggering 156 goals already this season. Chicago and Columbus, two equally inept squads, both tie it on here for the #2 position, the Hawks and Jackets have both allowed a total of 150 goals against this season.

Home Power – A team we haven’t heard of here yet, the Vancouver Canucks surprisingly enough have the conferences best home record with a mark of 16-3-3 thus far. The Nashville Predators play their visitors tough too, the Preds are a solid 17-5 at home this season. The Calgary Flames are another team that burns the opposition when they come calling, the Flames now a solid 16-4-2 in the Saddledome.

Home Alone – The St. Louis Blues continue to swallow all the “ugly awards”, the Blues are now just 5-13-3 on their own ice, hellish. Chicago hasn’t been giving their fans anything to cheer about this season, the Blackhawks are just 7-10-1 on the season at home. The Columbus Blue Jackets once again show up in the ugly category, the Jackets are just 8-11 on their own ice thus far.

Road Warriors – The Dallas Stars are taking no prisoners when they go on the road this season, the team is now a staggering 15-4-1 on the road. Detroit is another good road value team, the Red Wings are an astounding 14-5-2 when playing in another teams building this season. Edmonton surprises us here as the Oilers have become Road Warriors with a mark of 13-8-2 thus far.

RoadKill – The Columbus Blue Jackets get top honors here, the team is just 5-16-2 on the road and doesn’t look like it will get better anytime soon. The St. Louis Blues again show up in the ugly column, this team they take #2 spot with a record of just 5-12-2 on the road this season. The Anaheim Ducks are an up and down team, no consistency has led the team to a 5-10-4 mark on the road this season.

That’s about all for now folks, I hope this information helps you to make wise decisions before you go making any wagers over the next while. Golf’s Most Important Rule! – Golf Ball Contact

Posted in Uncategorized

Ever wonder how to get that great distance and control on the course? It all has to do with golf ball contact. Everything depends on how and when you hit the golf ball, and you’ll see it in your results.

Hit Down to Get the Ball Up: This may sound a little bit crazy to some but, with every club except the driver and putter you should be striking the ball with a slightly downward blow. What this does is, it allows the loft of the club to work as it’s supposed to and launch the ball up into the air. Proper golf ball contact will also increase distance because when the ball is hit at impact, the descending movement compresses the ball witch in turn releases more energy sending the ball further.

There is a common mistake made by beginners. What they tend to do is try to scoop the ball and help it into the air with their fairway woods and irons. This is a critical mistake because hitting up on the ball will only causes a lot more miss hits and give the player poor distance on each shot.

When you are swinging your irons and even fairway woods you should be aiming at the bottom front of the ball itself or even a little bit before the ball. This will allow the very bottom of your swing arc to still be on a descending path when you make contact with the golf ball. If you watch a good player when they hit the ball with a 9-iron for example, you’ll notice that their divots always begin in front of the ball and never after the ball. What this means is the golfer is making contact with the ball first still on the downswing, and then contact with the turf takes place.

When this is done correctly the golf ball gets squished or pressed between the clubface and the ground, witch increases the compression and results in more distance and spin for that particular shot. If you try to hit up on the ball with your fairway woods or irons you could end up topping the ball or even missing it.

The Exception: There’s always one exception to every rule. This one involves hitting your driver off the tee. With this club you want to try to make golf ball contact on the slight upswing or the beginning of your upward swing arc. One of the main reasons for doing this is because the driver has very little loft and it’s harder to get the ball into the air.

The other reason is the drivers now have very few grooves witch helps to eliminate spin that is put on the ball during compression. It allows the ball to travel through the air with a piercing or floating type action and travel great distances.

One of the most important tips you can learn about equipment and your golf game is when to make proper golf ball contact. It all depends on what club you are using and the situation. Try and use this little bit of info the next time you’re on the course and watch what happens.
